CAD 3D design Hexapod

Construction CAD

3D design

The aim of the project

The Hexapod should be modular, lightweight and 3D printable be - with a focus on:

  • fully CAD designed
  • mechanical stability
  • symmetrical axes of motion,
  • and a clean Engine mount for Servos or actuators.

The design process in Fusion 360

I have first parametric sketching worked to define the basic geometry of the legs. Then followed:

  • Creating a movable joint system with the correct degrees of freedom
  • Design Central platform with space for control electronics
  • Integration of Joint Constraints for later Simulation

I took advantage of the many Strengths of Fusion 360 as:

  • Design History (Timeline)
  • Components structure for modular components
  • Motion simulation (optional) for the pre-examination

Preparation for the 3D printing

All parts were designed with a defined wall thickness and sufficient clearance to minimize clean post-processing. The STL export function of Fusion 360 enabled direct further processing in a slicer for the 3D printer
