3D design
The aim of the project
The Hexapod should be modular, lightweight, and 3D-printable – with a focus on:
- fully CAD designed
- mechanical stability
- symmetrical axes of motion,
- and a clean Engine mount for Servos or actuators.
The design process in Fusion 360
I have first parametric sketching worked to define the basic geometry of the legs. Then followed:
- Creating a movable joint system with the correct degrees of freedom
- Design Central platform with space for control electronics
- Integration of Joint Constraints for later Simulation
I took advantage of the many Strengths of Fusion 360 as:
- Design History (Timeline)
- Components structure for modular components
- Motion simulation (optional) for the pre-examination
Preparation for 3D printing
All parts were strength with a defined wall and constructed to minimize a clean post-processing. The STL export function of Fusion 360 allowed for direct further processing in a Slicer for 3D printer
